      Title:
      Shaping the Future of Exploration: Incremental Advances or Game-Changing Technologies?

      Modern exploration successes are often strongly correlated with forward leaps in geophysical technologies and processes. How can service providers strike the perfect balance between providing incremental improvements to proven technologies and delivering game-changing innovations? Is the demand articulation as good as it could be?

      Elsewhere, have we already seen the best of seismic attributes, QI, and inversion? Have these technologies already peaked? And what has happened to certain technologies that were once full of promise but have since seemed to be dormant or forgotten (e.g., shear wave exploration)?

      Shaping the Energy Landscape: Sustaining Oil & Gas Supply

      Session Description

      Investments in green energy have outstripped that of hydrocarbons since the year 2019. But as the world continues to navigate the complexities of a global energy transition, the importance of providing sound and socially just support for oil and gas– which is projected to provide at least two-thirds of the primary energy mix for decades to come– will assume even greater proportions.

      To that end, this session will unravel efforts being pursued by host authorities to ensure that their respective backyards continue to become world-leading low-carbon energy hubs. This will undoubtedly require coordinated and holistic systems-based approaches to accelerate turnaround times and bring down operating costs.

      How are different nations tackling these challenges? What forms of regional collaboration and alignment will be needed to address transnational energy issues? What are the new opportunities for both operators and service providers in a world heading towards Net Zero? What new forms of public-private partnerships might emerge as a result?

      From Overlooked to Unlocked: Strategies for Success in Mature Oil & Gas Basins
      Mature basins are typically defined by “creamed” resource addition charts. However, year after year, multiple oil & gas discoveries are made in mature basins all over the world - what did it take to unlock that potential? What were the secrets behind the success of those exploration companies? 

      Elsewhere, is the description of a basin as “mature” best understood as an indication to pursue to infrastructure-led exploration ((ILX) instead of play-based exploration (PBE)? Is there such a thing as an “ideal” time for companies to turn inwards and start trying to identify previously overlooked pay zones or prospects initially deemed non-viable? And in such situations, how do explorers balance their portfolios between ILX and PBE activities?

      Exploring for oil & gas in mature basins also requires different skills and tools - how do different companies prepare themselves for growth? What are the best practices for dealing with tasks that can easily become both data and time-intensive? And what are likely to be the next “mature hotspots” for oil & gas exploration in Asia?
