Explore and decipher geological wonders of Langkasuka Basin
with focus on understanding the geological characteristics, and demonstrate the
existence of petroleum system elements in northwestern of Peninsular Malaysia
Pulau Ular
Pulau Ular is made up of several undulating hills separated by abrasion platforms. Dropstone structure suggests that the pebbly mudstone of Singa Formation (equivalent of Timah Tasoh Formation in mainland) is of marine glacial deposits. Trace fossils are abundant in the lower part of the island which suggests shallow marine environment condition prior the glacial deposits.
Kilim Geoforest Park
Prominent karst features can be observed in Kilim Geoforest Park like vertical and overhanging cliffs, bare rock exposures, island and caves. The outcrops mainly made up setul Formation, the oldest carbonate rock in the region (490 - 370 million years ago). Rich in fossil diversity, Kilim's fossils includes trilobites, gastropods, graptolites and cephalopods.
Dayang Bunting
Dayang Bunting Marble Geoforest consists of Pulau Dayang Bunting, Pulau Tuba and a few other islands surrounding the area. Several rock formations can be seen including Kuah Granite (Triassic), Setul Limestone (Ordovician - Middle Devonian) and Chuping Limestone (Permian).
