In his current role, Datuk Adif is responsible for PETRONAS’ Upstream Business strategy, operations and activities of which PETRONAS’ presence extends across 20 countries globally. Leading up to his appointment, he was the Executive Vice President and CEO of Gas & New Business Energy Business where he was responsible for the company’s Midstream Gas Assets, LNG Marketing and New Energy.
Having joined PETRONAS in 1993 as a reservoir engineer, Datuk Adif has worked in various areas including reservoir engineering, strategic planning, business development and petroleum economics. He has held the role of Senior Vice President of Development and Production, Upstream Business overseeing Upstream development projects and operations worldwide. Prior to that, he was Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy, responsible for shaping and steering PETRONAS’ long term strategic direction, including leading Mergers & Acquisitions, change management and strategic industry research.
As a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Datuk Adif has played leading roles within the petro-technical community in Asia Pacific and Middle East via his roles as Chairman of the SPE Asia Pacific Regional Advisory Council, Chairman of the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) Board of Directors, and serves on the international advisory committee for Offshore Technology Conference Asia (OTCA). He was previously the Vice Chair for the E&P Working Committee for the International Gas Union (IGU).
Datuk Adif holds a Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from Colorado School of Mines and an MBA from Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, USA.

Prof. Ir. Tutuka Ariadji
Firouz was appointed to his current role in June 2019. He had joined PETRONAS in 1989 as a Facilities Engineer in the Exploration & Production Division. Throughout the 33 years of his career in PETRONAS, he has progressed through a series of domestic and international assignments spanning both Upstream and Downstream businesses, including stints in the corporate centre.
In his previous role as Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy from July 2017 to March 2019, he was instrumental in setting up the New Energy business of PETRONAS as part of the strategy to future-proof the organisation.
Presently, Firouz sits on the boards of several PETRONAS subsidiaries including Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS and PETRONAS LNG Sdn. Bhd. He also chairs PETRONAS’ venture capital outfit, PTV International Ventures Ltd. In addition, he serves on the board of Malaysia-Thailand Joint Authority (MTJA) and International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP).
He graduated with a Bachelor in Civil Engineering from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and holds an MBA from Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a Sloan Fellow.
Andrew has over 30 years’ experience assisting majors and independents in the development of their energy strategies. He currently leads Wood Mackenzie’s subsurface research content across all aspects of the upstream oil and gas and emerging geo-energy industries.
Andrew previously led the Exploration Strategy offering within the Upstream Consulting business. He worked with clients to help optimise their investments in petroleum exploration, and advised on strategy, process, opportunity characterisation and evaluation. As part of this offering, Andrew directed Wood Mackenzie’s series of multi-client projects on deepwater, Arctic and exploration themes.
Andrew has been with Wood Mackenzie’s energy team since 1995. Until the end of 2001, he managed the team responsible for Sub-Saharan Africa research products and consultancy, undertaking a range of market analysis and regional strategy projects.
He started his career in 1990 as an international new ventures geologist with Ranger Oil. Later, as Ranger focused on West Africa, he became project geologist for Angola.
Andrew graduated from Imperial College London with a Bachelor of Science in Geology, and holds a PhD in Geology from University College, Cardiff.
Rajeev assumed his current position in July 2020. Prior to this role, he has held various management positions including President of Integrated Performance Management, Head of Marketing & Corporate Strategy, Vice President of Reservoir Characterisation in the Eastern Hemisphere, President of Integrated Drilling Services, President of Schlumberger Production Management, and President of Asia Pacific.
Earlier in his Schlumberger career, Rajeev was the Vice President of Well Construction and Intervention and held several operations management positions in India, UK, USA, China and Kuwait. He began his career with Schlumberger in 1992 as a Wireline Field Engineer in India.
Rajeev holds an MBA from Erasmus University Rotterdam and a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
Piya Sukhumpanumet
Piya has more than 30 years working experiences with PTTEP in various roles and responsibility in the Oil & Gas Exploration and Production business. Throughout his distinguished career with PTTEP, he has experiences in asset management of both domestic and international oil & gas fields. He also has taken various leadership roles in Human Resources, Geosciences, Subsurface, and Exploration Group of PTTEP.
Piya holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geology from Chulalongkorn University and an MBA from Sasin School of Management, Thailand.
Plenary Session 1: Role of Geoscience for a Sustainable Future

Redhani joined PETRONAS as a Geoscientist in 1997. Prior to his current role, he was appointed as Head of Portfolio, Intervention and Transition under the President’s Office in 2020.
With 25 years of experience in the company, he has held various other senior management positions, which include Head and Iraq Country Chairman, Head of Basin & Petroleum System, Head of International Ventures and Head of Petroleum Resource Exploration in Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM). He served PETRONAS in Pakistan and Ethiopia in the earlier years of his career from 2002 to 2007.
Redhani graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, and attended Advanced Management Programme in Harvard Business School.
Ibbel Ansink currently holds the role of Chief Exploration and Geosciences for Shell reporting to the EVP Upstream Exploration.
The purpose of the role is two-fold: As part of the Exploration Line of Business, he acts as custodian for all technical aspects underpinning safe and successful Exploration business delivery. In the Technical Function Chief Exploration and Geosciences role, Ibbel ensures the overall health of Shell’s global Geoscience community to deliver differentiated value to Shell both in the near & long-term.
During his 30-year career with Shell, Ibbel has held multiple asset and functional assignments in Exploration & Production in the Netherlands, UK and Nigeria.
Ibbel graduated from Delft University of Technology with a MSc in Mining Engineering in 1991.
Kaiwan has over 15 years’ experience as an Oil & Gas executive. In his current role as a Global Director at Halliburton Consulting, he leads the consulting organisation globally which includes E&P technical consulting work including new energy projects around CCS and Geothermal.
He joined Halliburton in 2001 from Schlumberger as a lead engineering consultant, and has since held leadership roles in business development and operations in Middle East & North Africa (MENA), Asia Pacific (AP) and the USA. His previous roles include Senior Regional Manager MENA & AP, Regional Sales Manager MENA, Senior Product Manager R&D, Principal Consultant Drilling & Completions.
Kaiwan holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma, a Master of Petroleum Engineering from University of Houston and an MBA from McCombs School or Business at the University of Texas at Austin.
Jean-Marc Rodriguez was a Senior Manager in TotalEnergies, most recently Vice President, Exploration Asia Pacific leading a team of experts working to optimise and grow the company’s exploration in the Asia Pacific region working extensively on the implementation of new technologies and value creation. Support from TotalEnergies will allow him to devote his time to EAGE presidential commitments.
Since obtaining his Masters from School and Observatory for Earth Sciences (EOST) in France in Geology and Geophysics, he has spent 35 years in exploration and production, the first five with BP. In his career he has held many E&P positions around the world which includes France, UK, Angola, Congo, USA, Thailand and Singapore.
In her current role, Leanne leads the direction on upstream content, software, analytics, research, and insights. She has in-depth knowledge and broad experience across the upstream energy industry with her focus on leading digital transformation, connecting to the energy value chain & energy transformation.
Her career has spanned leading sales, consulting, analysts, product management and new technology development. Digital transformation strategies and best practices, modern data solutions, GG&E software, commercial and cultural implications to the organisation are her areas of expertise.
Leanne has held executive leadership positions at IHS Markit and senior leadership roles in energy consulting and software companies. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Business from the University of Calgary.
Sandeep has more than 37 years of experience in the oil and gas industry in various technical and leadership roles within PETRONAS and ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation). His key contributions include championing new geophysical technologies to deliver value adding solutions for exploration and development.
He is a member of the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) board and the Chairperson of Society of Exploration Geophysicists’ (SEG) Asia Pacific Advisory Committee. He has more than 65 international publications and is the recipient of the prestigious National Petroleum Management Award conferred by the government of India in 2005. He was also nominated this year as a candidate to serve SEG’s board as Director at Large.
He received a Master’s degree in Physics in 1984, followed by a specialised Diploma in Petroleum Geophysics from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India.
Plenary Session 2: Economics and Technology – Enabling a Low Carbon, Digital World

Aadrin was appointed Chief Digital Officer in November 2020. He also occupies the position of CEO of PETRONAS Digital Sdn. Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the PETRONAS.
Aadrin is responsible for delivering techno-digital solutions for PETRONAS, apart from orchestrating its transformation journey. Amongst his notable contributions are leading the delivery of PETRONAS Groupwide Digital Agenda at scale and pace, including establishing key Enterprise Building Blocks such as Cloud, Connectivity and Enterprise Data Hubs, and putting in place the delivery engines such as engineering, architecture and data science in supporting the company’s Digital programmes.
Having joined the organisation in 1999, he has held various senior management positions across the value chain from corporate offices, upstream, gas and downstream. These include Executive Assistant to the President & Group CEO, Head of Gas Strategy in Corporate Planning, Head (Gas, Strategy and Commercial) of Integrated Gas in Upstream, Head of Upstream Business (Strategy and Portfolio) and Head of Retail Business, PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB). Before his current role, he was PDB’s Chief Operating Officer where he was pivotal in the ideation and implementation of multiple digital and business ventures within PDB.
Aadrin holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the University of Adelaide, Australia, and completed the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School in 2018.
As the Asia Pacific representative for EnerGeo Alliance, Simon works with members, regulators, energy companies and elected officials to advocate for the energy geoscience industry’s vital role in connecting the world to energy.
He is also a founding Director of Molyneux Advisors, a leading provider of upstream advice to the energy industry serving a global client base.
Simon has more than a quarter century of experience in the upstream energy industry and held a variety of executive leadership, management and technical roles at Talisman Energy, Shell and Santos.
He is first and foremost an Earth Scientist with a Masters in Earth Science from the University of Cambridge. He also holds a PhD in Structural Geology from University of Durham, UK and a Certificate in Decision and Risk Management from Stanford University, USA.
Apurva is the World Bank Lead Economist for Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur. He was previously based in Moscow and Nairobi holding similar roles for Russia and East Africa. He had also led the Economic Growth Cluster of the World Bank in Washington DC.
A macro-economist with environmental expertise, Apurva is a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. He has worked on development topics ranging from infrastructure and climate change to microfinance and agriculture. Prior to joining the World Bank, Apurva worked in the private sector in USA and at Thailand Development Research Institute. He has held teaching and research positions at MGIMO (Russia), Thammasat University (Thailand), University of Chicago and Yale University.
Apurva is a selective commentator with views expressed in the pages of major international media outlets such as Financial Times, The Economist, Project Syndicate and popular blog sites such as the World Bank and Brookings. He was recognised by Forbes Magazine as a ‘leader and disruptor’ trying to fix broken GDP. He has also given a live TEDx talk from the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya.
Apurva holds college degrees in Physics and Economics from the University of California Los Angeles. He earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago and wrote his dissertation on the economics of climate change.
