Handan joined PETRONAS in January 1991 as a Construction Engineer with PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB). In his early days, he was assigned to several onshore and offshore development projects, exposing him to various project phases from engineering design, fabrication, offshore installation, hook-up, to commissioning and start-up.
In the subsequent years, he led process and mechanical team before his secondment to Malaysia-Thailand Joint Authority in 2005 to lead exploration and production department.
In 2010, he was assigned as Head, Garraf oilfield project delivery in Iraq where he successfully led his team in delivering first oil in August 2013.Upon returning to Malaysia in 2014, he was leading resource development team, under Malaysia PETROLEUM Management, overseeing appraisal wells and delivering several FDPs for oil and gas resources development in Sarawak.
In 2016, he was assigned as Head, Project Delivery (Upstream International), under Project Delivery and Technology Division. In addition of overseeing development projects, he was also leading an execution team to perform 1st Deepwater decommissioning project offshore Mauritania. In 2017, he was appointed as Project Director for ENGEN Petroleum Ltd based in Durban, South Africa.
Since early 2019, he has been leading the Production & Operations Management, under Malaysia PETROLEUM Management – the exploration & production regulatory arm of Malaysia.
He graduated from University College London, in Mechanical Engineering.
